A Long Overdue Update

Sorry it's been so long since my last post. Don't worry - I'm still making a card every day!

Day 40 - I wish I had time this day to knit something. I do like knitting but I don't like how much time it takes.

 Day 41 - Ladybug!

Day 42 - This week was Chinese New Year

Day 43 - I struggled with what to do for this one. I ended up following the instructions of my friend Katherine. On her blog, she describes how to transfer font using just a pencil. I have naturally horrible writing so it was nice to get it somewhat even. These words are lyrics to a song that has helped me get through some rough times.

Day 44 - Sometimes I totally stretch what I think the author is going for...haha...is this cheating?

Day 45 - I LOVE watercolors. I love how they have a mind of their own. When I took art classes, our teacher showed us how to make these trees by masking them off with tape, painting around them, taking the tape off, then adding the brown. I used salt on the wet paint to add some texture.

Day 46 - Sometimes I like making goofy cards. I made another "little recipe book" (Remember the smoothie one?). This time I used recipes we were taught in massage school (hydrotherapy - best class ever!!) for face masks. Try these - they're awesome! Also, it's totally fun to color on celebrity's and model's faces. haha

Day 47 - Mixed media

Day 48 - Inukshuk

Day 49 - I love buttons!

Day 50 - White dove

Day 51 - Cute little dinosaur

Day 52 - Today I discovered that I don't have pink watercolors! Lame! I tried to mix pink but that didn't really work. So I just made red ones. I painted this upside down and tried to focus more on the feel of the flowers rather than the structure.

Day 53 - The red part is a perfume sample from a magazine. Magazines are great for ATCs (I sometimes buy old ones from the library for 10 cents)

Where Will My Imagination Take Me?

Day 27 - Let me tell you, pregnancy dreams are WHACKO! They are so vivid and crazy...so I was excited that I got to turn one of my weird dreams into an ATC. The night before making this card, in one of my dreams, I was walking through a building and saw a tiny creepy men's washroom, and then a blingin' women's washroom next to it. It was a total party in there! haha

Day 28 - Highlighters, staples, lined paper, and paperclips. Sometimes I miss school....sometimes...then I remember I enjoy having a life and I don't miss it so much.

Day 29 - I really like using mixed medias. I'm using up a lot of my cool stuff though, so I'm going to have to go "stuff hunting" soon. I made this magazine girl a "feather mask" out of fabric and added a piece of a sewing pattern, some string, and a label from a package I received from China.

Day 30 - Work with toys? How about I MAKE a toy? This is an I Spy game. You find the objects by moving around the rice to uncover them. Pretty fun.

Day 31 - My husband, Jordan, and I love geocaching. It's a great way to discover your own city and connect with the community. Or, if you're traveling, you can visit sites all over the world. We geocached in Hawaii! This geocache is located in Confederation Park in Calgary. It is one of our favorites.

Day 32 - Ephemeral? I'll admit. I had to look that one up on dictionary.com. I was really struggling with what I could make, then I saw that the placenta was considered an ephemeral organ. It grows and nurtures the baby, then when it is no longer needed, your body gets rid of it. Pretty awesome.

Day 33 - Drawing of pens with pen

Day 34 - A baby hand out of wire. I'm pretty sure I've been feeling this little one flutter around so I've been thinking about its little hands and feet lately. I'm 19 weeks now!

Day 35 - Stop being lame and start being awesome! Here are some ideas to get you started. (This is actually more so a list for myself...)

Day 36 - I found this old Asian coin and tried to make it look "new" by dressing it up with some silky fabric and a modern black background.

Day 37 - I used to go to the ATC trades quite frequently (I haven't been in a few years) and there was this one lady there that always made these cool cards where the front opened up to reveal more stuff underneath. She would leave the top flap over the page protector pouch so you could see all the content. I tried to make one like that today. Also, I am in desperate need to find more sheet protectors for my cards. I think I'm going to have to go to a sports card store...ATCs are the same size. I used to be able to find them at the dollar store but not anymore.

Wanted!

Day 38 - "Work underwater. Fill up a large bowl, vase, or old fish tank with water and create something inside of it." This definitely needed to be a photo project. I took several photos but I liked the way this one turned out because it looks like there are 2 red Siamese Fighting Fish in there.
